The KifoBucket®: Simply a bucket of water + a handful of grass + a stick + a KifoTablet®
Build Your Own KifoBucket®
Build Your Own Mosquito KifoBucket® :
- A bucket (half-filled with water)
- A handful of grass (releases CO₂ to attract egg-laying mosquitoes)
- A stick (escape ramp & egg-laying surface)
- A KifoBucket® Tablet (kills larvae after hatching)
Tablet Duration & Use:
- 1 KifoBucket® Tablet = 30+ days protection for 50 liters of water.
- Cost-Saver: Break 1 KifoBucket® Tablet into 4 pieces; use ¼ per bucket monthly (set reminders!).
- Fill Level: Half full only. Some mosquitoes lay eggs above water; the stick provides substrate. Rising water submerges eggs, larvae hatch, KifoBucket® Tablets kills them.
What to Expect:
- See eggs/larvae ("wigglers")? Good! An active Tablet ensures no pupae ("tumblers") emerge as biting adults.
Placement & Scale:
- Where: Shaded, low-wind areas (mosquito rest zones). No shade? Place near a shade-casting object (house/shed).
Keep 3+ meters from seating areas – it must be your property's only attractive standing water. - How Many: Start with 1 bucket. Add more based on yard size, vegetation, airflow, and nearby water sources.
Optimizations & Safety:
- The Stick (ESSENTIAL):
→ Prevents drowning of wildlife/insects (even with a cover).
→ Attracts mosquitoes that lay eggs above water.
→ Simplifies monthly Tablet replacement. - Cover (Recommended): Use chicken wire/wide-mesh hardware cloth to secure Tablet. Avoid fine mesh blocking mosquitoes.
- Color Boost (Optional): CO₂ is the primary attractant, but colors like black, red, orange, cyan enhance lure post-CO₂ detection (Source: "CO₂ induces attraction to spectral bands perceived as cyan, orange, and red").
